All Cancer Care Cymru Specialist Nurses working in clinics offer a chemotherapy follow up 'phone back service' this service provides a vital telephone link to patients at home who have received their chemotherapy treatment the day before. Patients tell us that they find this service wonderfully reassuring and allows them to talk through any worries or concerns that they may have.

Currently the phone back service makes contact with over 100 patients each week. This model of service has won much praise and is now being replicated by many other cancer nurses in the UK. In addition working in partnership with the Velindre Cancer Out-Patient Manager, the Cancer Care Cymru Breast Team took part in a process mapping exercise with the breast clinics. The outcome of this exercise demonstrated that the introduction of a nurse led breast cancer clinic working with the telephone call back system resulted in a 32% reduction in patient waiting times. This is good news for patients and their families.
