Professional Development Manager

Val Aston has worked in oncology for over 20 years and was a Ward Manager, Specialist Nurse and Patient Information Manager at Velindre Hospital before joining Cancer Care Cymru part time as their Professional Development Manager. She also won a nursing scholarship to visit the American Cancer Society in Atlanta to look at patient information.
Her role is to develop the knowledge and skills of all new nurses joining the charity in order that they can practice as Specialist Nurses alongside their NHS colleagues in hospitals throughout Wales. She is also responsible for the ongoing education and development of all the Cancer Care Cymru Nursing team.  Val also works alongside the Head of Nursing at Cancer Care Cymru to develop services within the charity. Val has lectured widely nationally and has published several papers on cancer issues. Val hopes to use her wide range of expertise and skills to help Cancer Care Cymru become one of the leading Cancer Charity in Wales.
